Commodore’s Corner
Having spent most of November in warmer climes, including a visit with one of our migrating members, the MacLeans, in Brunswick GA, I have not much to say about the goings-on at the Club this past month.  Oh yes, we had the Commodore’s Ball and Annual General Meeting last weekend.
The Ball was extremely well attended – i.e. sold out, and we had some amusing demonstrations and a wonderful dance afterwards.  Thanks to those attending – it was a fun evening.
The AGM was also well attended – in fact, many more members than we’ve had in recent years – finally, those 50 copies of the reports did not end up in the garbage (at the Club at least!)  In addition to the various reports to the members, there were some Membership By-Law changes approved and some changes in membership fees that were approved after a lively debate.  These are reported elsewhere in this edition.  The Commodore’s Service Award went to two individuals that have been constant workers in Club activities for several years – Jon Wilkins, who on his own initiative fixes any number of things around the Club (including the elusive dock pins) and Gord Fox, who for as many years as I can remember, has directed Gary, the crane operator during haulout and launch.  Thanks men!   There was an election for members of the Board as well, resulting in no change to the members, but thank you Cathie Coultis for letting your name stand.
Finally, I’d like to thanks all those who supported the Club through their various activities this past year – it has been a good year for the Club and I believe that the Club’s success is down to your efforts as members to keep it a vibrant and fun place.  Also many thanks to those that have helped me this past year as Commodore – Henry and Doug, the Board, Dennis and many members who offered their advice and support.

 From the Membership Director
Moved by R Giberson and Seconded by Larry Tilling: That the membership by-Law #5 be amended by: 1 Changing the description of  (a)  Honourary  as follows:
An honourary member is one nominated by the Board and elected annually by a majority vote at an annual general meeting. An honourary member has all the privileges of membership except those reserved for full and life members. An honourary member shall not be liable for fees.

2 Changing the description of (b) Life as follows: (b) A life member is one nominated by the Board and elected for life by a two-thirds majority at an annual general meeting. A life member is entitled to all privileges accorded a full member but is not liable for fees.

3. Removing category (e) Organizational and renumbering the categories

These changes are primarily housekeeping in nature and were made to change the Bylaws to reflect the current practice. The fee structure was also changed with Full membership fees increasing to $335.00, and Supporting Membership fees increasing to $108.00. The AGM also approved a 50% discount of the supporting membership fee, for the spouse of a full member.

 From The House!
Happy Hour continues on Fridays, except in the case of a scheduled Club dinner. A casual mixed darts group meets Thursdays at 7:30 PM at the club. All skill levels, everyone is welcome!

Odds and Ends

Editorial Comment:  The Editor, as a full member, and past commodore of the club  is dying to comment on the recent AGM and election! The fact that all of the incumbents who ran for office were re-elected is proof, if any were needed, that all of these people are well-liked and have done their jobs well. Congratulations to all of them from the staff of the Bay Beaver Bugle!

The change in fee for supporting memberships for spouses of members is an excellent idea, and should encourage more to join us officially. I think I know of one who will do so.

The Hedonists are still hiding in their corner…

Cathie and the Cookbook!
If you have not already heard about it,  Cathie Coultis, skipper of Scotch Mist and frequent volunteer at Friday Happy Hour, has volunteered to produce a cook book featuring favourite PEYC recipes, for use ashore and afloat. Contributions of recipes, as many as you wish to submit, are welcome. There will also be a photo contest for the cover and use throughout the spiral-bound volume, designed for boat and cottage use, as well as home.
Publication is planned for the autumn of 2008. Submissions may be left for Cathie at the bar or sent to her directly. For further information:

Napanee Park
If no other Hedonists report, may I recommend the Conservation Park  in Napanee? It is a full afternoon or morning sail to the mouth of the Napanee River in Mohawk Bay, east of Deseronto. For all but a brave and skilful few, the river itself is a motor trip, where one must pay close attention to the markers, or get stuck in the mud. An interesting feature of the river is what some consider a tide, since the water level rises and falls noticeably  and regularly as with an ocean tide.  Several learned articles have been written on the topic.
The park offers very reasonable and safe mooring with some power available. Town and park facilities are close and good. It is not, however ideal for a short overnight cruise, a couple of days at least are best. Picnics sites are ideal, and there are public barbecues, of sorts, near the water. Shallow water late in the season is a river hazard.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All
