QUINTE DISTRICT RENDEZVOUS 2008 & ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

                       BOATING ON THE BAY

Our squadron is hosting the District Rendezvous and AGM on Friday & Saturday May 30th & 31st and Sunday June 1st.  We invite our members to join us for “Boating on the Bay” weekend of activities.  The District consists of squadrons from RCAF Trenton, Ajax, Oshawa, Peterborough, Lindsay, Bay of Quinte and Prince Edward County. The last time we hosted the event was on June 6, 1997.

Those of you who come on Friday evening are welcome to join the Wings Night at the CFB Trenton Yacht Club.  The cost is $4 for 6 wings, potato wedge fries and salad. After the wings feast, we are organizing a ‘Sunset Cruise’ on the Bay, followed by dessert back at the Yacht Club.

On Saturday the On-the-Water Competition will run from the CFB Trenton Yacht Club in the morning and afternoon, with a break for a BBQ lunch. District Bridge Member Simon Taylor is busy preparing custom-designed predicted log and navigation trials for the competition, and we hope to have at least one team from each Squadron compete. Also, Simon will run a briefing on Saturday morning for teams who may not have competed before, or need reminding of the rules. The lunch break BBQ on the Yacht Club deck will serve a Windmill sausage or a hamburger, with trimmings and a beverage. We have ideal waters to run these types of competitions, and it’s a great opportunity to brush up your navigation skills early in the season. Sailboats can compete as well as power boats, and currently RCAF Trenton holds the Edwards and Richardson trophies, both won by sailors.

For people who are not competing in the boating trials, there will a Prince Edward County Tour that will stop for lunch at one of our noted County restaurants (pay your own lunch cost).  Alternatively, the very interesting RCAF Museum and Air Park is close by the Yacht Club, and we will arrange a hosted tour in the afternoon. The cost is free and the museum welcomes donations. (You can of course visit the museum on your own schedule if you prefer).

On Saturday evening, “BBQ on Wheels” will prepare a delicious dinner at Baker’s Island Community Center. There will be a silent auction of crafts and other locally sourced items, followed by a Monte Carlo Night that will include Blackjack, Crown and Anchor and Roulette.  Bring your money and be a winner!

On Sunday morning our squadron members will use their culinary skills and cook you a big breakfast at the Yacht Club.  The District AGM will follow, in the Yacht Club.
