PRINCE EDWARD POWER AND SAIL NOTICES BOARD

Knotty News

From The Commander

With the late ice out and still cold nights the boating season will be on us before we know it, and just to make things difficult it seems the flu season is also upon us, well hopefully just me, therefore this is the first edition of the Knotty News .

07 was a slow year for the Prince Edward Squadron, because of lack of attendance we didn’t have a rendezvous in the 07 season and we didn’t get enough students for a basic boating class. But we did get some Boat Pro classes and VHF Radio classes done.

07 was the first year of Dragon boat races at Wellington at which Peter Sztuke helped out and represented the Prince Edward Squadron. Our thanks to Peter.

I tried to attend most of the District meeting and I’m sure I made it to more than I missed. Lucky for me and my gas budget I could get a ride with Elaine Jeffery our District Commander and Heather Krawczyk District Sec. And I will confess if I had to drive up there by myself I would have missed a lot more district meetings. One thing that really stuck with me at a district meeting was that one of the squadrons was losing hundreds of dollars to rent a space to do their boating coarse and we get space donated ESSROC Cement and Prince Edward Yacht Club, we don’t know how lucky we are.

Membership
Membership is at 120 , This being the renewal season I hope to keep all of these and bring in a few more from those that do the boat pro course. Congratulations to Ron Fisher who joins the lifers this year with his 20th merit mark.

Training
It was disappointing not to run a Basic Boating Course this past season But Dave and John kept things going with Boat Pro and VHF courses. We are looking at doing a GPS seminar and possibly an Advanced Piloting. Anyone interested in advanced courses let us know and we will see what we can do.
Any help in promoting CPS courses is greatly appreciated.
