The 7th annual Viking 28
Level
Racing was held at the Prince Edward Yacht Club. Competitors from as far
away as Toronto and Whitby, including Belleville and local sailors
exchanged tactics for two days of racing.
Once again the winds were favourable and the competition was close. In
the distance race after an exciting start, positions changed as they
raced to the first mark. On the winward leg back to finish Nefertiti
made a great come back and took Beserk at the finish line by four
secounds. The geriatric squad showed the youngins how to windward work.
Blueberry blew a head sail and had to borrow one to continue the series.
Great winds prevailed the next day for the course racing.
Any event is only as good as those who volunteer their time and
equipment to organize and coordinate both on and
off
the water activities. Many thanks to Chera and her volunteer group who
organized the pig roast. Thanks to John Lyons who solicited sponsors for
the event. Special thanks to Bruce Lloyd and Brian Skuffham who
volunteered their time and boats for the race committee and mark boat
duty. The Race Committee chair Rob Giberson and his crew, Doreen Hunt,
Geordie Moogridge, Grant and Carol Charlesworth did an outstanding job
keeping the races on time and their efforts were greatly appreciated by
the sailing fleet.
