Once again the winds came and the sailors rejoiced. Fair skies accompanied by 10 - 15 knot winds pushed the fleet around the long distance course. Some exciting spinnaker work kept the crews occupied and the drivers on their toes. The winds built as the day progressed and the fleet finished within twenty minutes of the lead boat.
Course race day started out with light winds, the advantage going to those who read the wind shifts. The winds built into the afternoon from a light 5 knots to 20 -25 knots. Mike Dolan of Moonshadow, crewed by his sailing school comrades were one tack from the finish line when the mast decided to become scrap aluminum. Fortunately, no one was injured with the exception of  Mike who felt terribly dejected as his new baby lay crippled.
The organizing team provided a wonderful BBQ with burgers and corn. Everyone enjoyed a most delicious steak dinner at the awards ceremonies. The race committee had the racers organized and started on time. During the last race the windward mark broke loose but fast action by our support team rescued the mark and the games continued.
Plans for next year are underway.  Thanks to our sponsors, the organizing committee, the race committee and most importantly the skippers and crew who provide the entertainment. See you all for the 6th Annual Viking Challenge in 2004.
